Wedding Fashion Inspiration for the Boys

Tickled pink to welcome back the amazing Aldona B, Street Style Huntress, to the Calgary Bride Blog. When we really think about it – how many opportunities do we get to make bold fashion choices? At the office you might be a little restricted – on the weekend, the park and the pub aren’t always the best place to sport your patterned chinos. For mens as well as women, weddings are the perfect opportunity to dress your very best. This week is all about the boys – Aldona has some swank styling advice for guys who long to take fashion risks.

I’m a huge fan of menswear, and it delights me when I see it done right – when someone is willing to take risks or try something new, I’m even more impressed.

When it comes to styling and getting dressed, I’m all about ensuring that my clients are happy with their purchases, and that the pieces they choose will be versatile and diverse in their closets, even when shopping for specific occasions, such as a Spring or Summer wedding. As I suggested in my last post that highlighted ladies wedding guest outfits, I recommend purchasing pieces that are versatile and can be worn again and again.

For this assignment I wanted to pick a couple of stores that are a bit different from one another in order to showcase various styles and choices out there. The pieces and outfits that I pulled are perfect for any spring or summer wedding, and with a few minor changes and additions, can also be transformed into an event outfit, or even for work.

I went with a couple of outfits that are a bit more casual – courtesy of Modernmenswear – and something a bit more dressed up from Ed Williams Mens Wear, to really showcase the diversity and options that you can choose from when getting prepped for a wedding this season.

Look One – Spring/Summer Layering

From: Modern Menswear

Modernmenswear is one of my favourite menswear stores. Owner Drew Rudichuk has a unique and distinct style, and he chooses clothes and designers to bring into his store that you won’t be able to find anywhere else. Brands include Dead Legacy, I Love Ugly, Stutterheim, Woden, and so many more!

For this first look, I wanted to showcase something casual, yet sleek, that you can wear not only to a summer wedding, but also to other occasions that might be filling up your calendar this season. These pieces can also be easily worn with other items, and the small details are definitely my favourite – such as the small daisy print on the shirt that look like polka dots. I love dark navy, as it’s the perfect neutral, and I broke up the pattern with a light weight jacket that is a wonderful layering piece for spring and summer.

The derby mid-cut boot is a versatile choice – I kept the same shoe for both outfits to demonstrate – and can be worn with denim and other pant options. They are dressy enough but can also go casual if need be, so don’t hesitate to wear these with some on-trend distressed jeans this summer!

Shirt – Bary Floral $170

Pants – Chino Provo $130 in Steel

Jacket –

Shoes – Royal Republiq Cast derby midcut w/black sole (hazel brown) $280

Sunglasses – Timeless clip-on horn $215

Look Two – Dapper

From: Ed Williams Mens Wear

I really wanted to showcase a look that is a bit more dressed up and dapper, although with the pieces that I’ve put together here, you can easily break them apart and put them together for a look that is either more casual or even more dressed up – so it’s really up to you!

The details of this outfit are really magical – the floral tonal print on the pant, the blue and silver melange jacket, a super cool pocket square and lapel pins, and of course, a funky hat to top off the look. One of the first things that I saw and commented on when I walked into the store were the Johnston & Murphy blue navy shoes, so I had to incorporate them into the look. Once again, these can be worn casually or dressed up, so play around and see what works.

Jacket – SP Jacket in Blue/Silver Melange $450

Shirt – Stenstroms (Blu Micro Twill) Slim

Pants – SF Pant (Navy Tonal Floral) $295

Shoes – Johnston & Murphy (Blue Navy) $225

Hat – The Wynn (Felt) $85

Bag – Ted Baker $385

Look Three – Bold Pattern

From: Modern Menswear

There’s no better time than a wedding to show up in something bolder and more exciting, and I’m so in love with this plantlife printed shirt! It’s a great way to bring some colour into your look, yet you’re still left with many options in terms of layering and how you want to put this piece together. Perhaps roll up the sleeves, or incorporate a sweater or light weight jacket into this look as well.

To show some ease and a more casual option, I opted for a black skinny pant that you can later wear year-round.

Shirt – Plantlife $239

Pants – Albert $205

Shoes – Royal Republiq Cast derby midcut w/black sole (hazel brown) $280

Sunglasses – Timeless clip-on horn $215
