Your Guide to Wedding Dress Silhouettes

So for real, the minute I got engaged, I was looking up wedding dress boutiques and salons and preparing to start my search for the perfect gown. Because as much as I love my husband and was THRILLED to be marrying the man of my dreams, I wanted to do it in the perfect dress.

I booked my appointments, I picked up my mom and off we went to the salons! But when we got there, one of the first things I was asked was what style of dress I wanted. Ummmm, the most gorgeous one ever, obviously? Ok, that’s clearly not a dress style. I stood there, realizing I was clueless as to the terminology I would need to describe the dress I wanted to wear down the aisle. “Something, well different, that is like quite flattering and everyone will remember, and I think I have a nice waist, so probably something that shows off my waist!” I can only imagine what that poor consultant was thinking as she went to grab me dresses!

A great place to start your search is for wedding dress silhouettes that work for your general body shape – here’s a little chart to help guide you but remember, it’s only a START and by no means are you married (haha, see what I did there?) to the styles suggested! Wear what YOU love and what makes YOU feel beautiful and sexy and ready to say “I DO!”

Ask for the help of a representative as soon as possible, and tell her about the dress styles that interest you the most. This will save a lot of time, since consultants are skilled stylists when it comes to finding a flattering dress style for a specific body type. Remember that there are many factors at play when choosing your gown, and it is important to consider them all. Make special note of the neckline, waistline, bodice and sleeves that compliment your figure the most, and make you feel the most confident.
