Natural Makeup For Your Wedding Day

True Colours

Many brides associate natural makeup with natural looking application, but that’s not necessarily the case. How can our brides have fun with colour, while still looking true to themselves? We asked Trena Laine Makeup Artist for her views on natural looking bridal makeup, for brides who love colour. Here is what she shared with us.

“Natural doesn’t mean less of an application, it takes a bit more work to make it look effortless or create the blushing bride “yoga-flush” we all dream about…. Along with getting good education from your makeup artist, is an understanding that whichever look or trend you are looking for inspiration from, at the end of the day you should look like a timeless, sophisticated, and gorgeous enhanced version of you.” Trena explained.

We educate our clients that fun colours could be in the family of gold shades, champagnes and other pretty earth-tone colours that come in matte or shimmery tones. We do offer and highly suggest that colours such as pinks and purples should be avoided on ones wedding day, as they can pick up on tired or red eyes or cause sweating or the feeling of crying when perhaps none of that above may be occurring.”

Natural Makeup Myths

According to Trena Laine Makeup Artist, understanding what the top 5 ingredients are listed on the label of any beauty product is the only way to know if there are natural ingredients involved. It is equally important to understand why certain ingredients are favoured over others, and which ones work well together, before we are so quick to judge our needs.

“Natural makeup doesn’t necessarily mean it has sustainability or the longevity to last the 12-16 hours of a wedding day, and it’s also important to understand that certain ingredients need to be in your product to provide better shelf life”, says Trena.

“Another popular myth is that liquid foundation doesn’t allow skin to breathe, and some clients prefer the mineral-based loose powders as coverage. We educate our clients about what and why certain products are necessary for a flawless, camera-friendly application, and even possibly provide further sun protection for your big day ahead.” Trena explained, “Certain products work in synergy and you want nothing less than your makeup to move. Our motto is “it should take a hurricane” to move all of that makeup off your face.”
