Already thinking of your first anniversary, and it’s not even your wedding day? A wonderful way to honor your first anniversary is to include a “Love Letter Ceremony” into your marriage ceremony.

The Love Letter Ceremony is a romantic ceremony that serves as a lasting reminder of the commitments you have made to one another. Heart-felt letters encapsulating thoughts, feelings and emotions are locked away in a letter to be revealed at a later time. A distinctive way to celebrate your love for one another. This is a wonderful ceremony for couples who are perhaps too shy to share their vows verbally on their wedding, but still wish to ensure that their personal vows are shared and remembered.

To begin, write a love letter to one another on stationary of their choosing, seal it, and address it to each other. During the marriage ceremony, the officiant will ask that the letters be exchanged and placed in a special box. This is a great opportunity to get creative! A favorite bottle of champagne, or wine (alcoholic or non-alcoholic), and two glasses may be included with the letters, as well as special mementos from the time leading up to wedding day. This special keepsake box will act like a time capsule, so no peeking! It’s up to you how long you wish to wait: Whether you open them on your first, fifth, even your tenth wedding anniversary, you will enjoy reflecting on the love that you felt for one another on that special day. Place the keepsake box in a prominent place in your home so it becomes a lasting and wonderful reminder of your wedding day.
